1 - If you do not practice, your lettering will show it. Check out the
comic strips
in your local paper and you will see what I mean.
2 - You can make a good lettering guide with a plain index card. Make
marks on the card at 3/16" for lettering and
then 2/16" for the
space between lines until you have about seven 3/16" spaces. Mark
each side of your drawing with
your lettering guide and draw light
lines across your drawing.
3 - Pencil in your letters first, and then ink for best results.
4 - The less dialog the better.
5 - Center your lettering and lines in the balloon.
6 - All of your lines of letters have to be the same distance apart
7 - Use heavier letters to denote shouting.
8 - Upper and lower case is OK if you have the patience to do it.
9 - The more air around your lettering , the better it will look!
10 - Keep your letters inside the guide lines. Does that remind you
of your mother?
I always stayed inside the lines when I
colored except when my sister pushed my elbow.
